5 Reasons Black People like White Parties!

For awhile now White Parties have been popular within the Black Community.  If you look on the internet for events in just about every major city you can find a White Party.  The venues may vary, but the theme is the same.  It does not matter if it is a Rooftop, Yacht, Hotel, Club, Park or Beach the white party remains popular.  People have even added twists such as masquerade, martini, white linen and a host of variations..  All I know is that Black People like white parties and there are some good reasons why!  

History of White Parties

No one really knows the actual origination of the “white party’”, never-the-less,  they are still very popular in the Black Community.  So, popular that they are held year around and all over the Country.  I have personally been to White Parties at Urban Ski Weekend in Tennessee, All White Yacht Parties in Tampa and Miami, Florida; as well as White Parties in Atlanta, GA.

Michael Ferrera from “Life….With Style traces the origin of White Parties to François Pasquier, in Paris, who many years ago planned to meet with a few friends in the park, and the way they would identify one another, among the locals with ease, was that they would all be dressed in complete white. Others say the 1988 “Paris Diner en Blanc” was the beginning of the phenomena.  In the Black Community, most agree that it was the July 4th, 2004 All White Party thrown by Hip Hop Icon Sean “Diddy” Combs that truly put it on the map for most.  Here are the top 3 reasons “White Parties” are popular in the Black Community.

Yvette from Orlando said – “I love seeing brown skinned folks in all white. We all have something in common, and (I like)meeting new people.”

Nicole from Missouri – “It’s like when you are going (to a Party) you can look around and tell (the) other people that you don’t know, but you know that you are all part of the same group…..  (It is) Sort of the same feeling that we have when we go to watch football and we see someone in Chiefs gear…..we don’t know each other, but we know that we have something in common with another person.”

1).  Black people look good in white.  It is undeniable.  The white color against our many different shades of black just pops.  I think that is something we can all agree on.  It does not matter if you have dark skin or light skin or somewhere in between. We just plain look good in white.

2).  Black people have so much style and swag.  Although everyone has on the same color, we all look different.  People add their own flavor to it.  Each person can express themselves.  Some use accessories and jewelry.  Others use hair.  One of my favorite items are the shoes.  I saw ladies and some men in awesome shoe selections.

3).  It may be simple but it is fun to shop for all white events.  Hunting for things that go together.  Finding an item that will set your outfit off.  I think it is fun  expressing yourself in the most basic of colors.  Deciding whether you want to be casual or formal; dressy or sheik; modern or traditional.  These are all things to take into consideration.  All of this plus in the back of your mind you don’t want someone else wearing what you have.  Finally, can anyone deny that the pictures of Black people in all white just look good?

Other Factors why Black People like White Parties!

4).  White parties work for all adult ages.  A “White Party” theme works well for people in their twenties and thirties and well as for those who are in their forties, fifties or sixties.

5).  White parties can easily be combined with locations or themes to add a twist to the party.  I have seen locations such as pools, beaches, boats, patios and roof used as excellent backdrops for a white party.  We have also seen them combined with categories like Grown and Sexy, Grown folks, Sexy, Old School and New School.  White parties go well for many types of events and celebrations for example Birthday Party, Dinner Party, Martini Party, Block Party, White Linen or a Yacht Party.
